The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), with its headquarters in Bangalore (Karnataka state), India, is a premier national institute of India for the study of and research into topics pertaining to astronomy, astrophysics and related subjects.The Institute has a network of laboratories and observatories located in various places in India, including Kodaikanal (the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory), Kavalur (the Vainu Bappu Observatory), Gauribidanur, Hanle (the Indian Astronomical Observatory) and Hosakote.

THE INDIAN SOCIETY OF AGROPHYSICS
The Indian Society of AgroPhysics was established in 1985. It is a society of professionals working in the
field of Agricultural Physics and allied disciplines with the main
objective of promoting research, education and training.
INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF PHYSICS TEACHERS (IAPT)
IAPT was established in the year 1984 by the great visionary late
Dr. D.P. Khandelwal with active support from some physics teachers
with the aim of upgrading the quality of physics teaching and physics
teachers through a mass movement of dedicated teachers. Since then
it has grown into a major organization with more than 4000 members
of which 3500 are Life-members, about 100 of them from abroad. The
members include research workers, science administrators, science
savvy enthusiasts, university, college and school teachers.
INDIAN PHYSICS ASSOCIATION
Indian Physics Association (IPA) was founded in
1970. IPA presently has about 3,500 members spread all over
India and abroad.
INDIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
The Academy, founded in 1934, aims at promoting the
progress and upholding the cause of science in pure and applied
branches. Major activities include publication of scientific journals
and special volumes, organizing meetings of the Fellowship and
discussions on important topics, recognizing scientific talent,
improvement of science education, and taking up other issues of concern
to the scientific community.
ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY OF INDIA

The Astronomical Society of India was established in 1972 and in the past thirty two years has grown to become the prime association of professional astronomers in India. The society has close to 1000 members. The objectives of the society are the promotion of Astronomy and related branches of science in India. The society organises scientific meetings, publishes a quarterly bulletin and supports the popularisation of Astronomy and other similar activities.
